Abax is a genus of beetles from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae). Your area includes Europe.
features
The beetles are 11 and 25 millimeters long. They are robustly built, mostly deep black carabids. Usually the males are shinier than the females. The base of the pronotum is wide. The shoulders and the elytra-basal margin are roughly the same width. There are no pore points in the third elytra. The tarsi are hairless on top. The third link of the antennae is at most as long as the first, but usually shorter. The antennae are only hairy from the fourth segment. The cerci of the larvae are 5- to 4-membered, their mandibles are curved and strongly protruding.
