Abd-Melqart

Abd-Melqart (see Abd and Melkart ) was from 694 BC. BC to 680 BC BC. Phoenician king of the city of Tire .

Abd-Melqart extended the power of Tire. He seems to have waged a war with the Israelites . He himself destroyed a fleet of Israelites with his fleet off Tire and was able to assert himself against the rest of the city-states.

Legend has it that he was poisoned by his daughter Numila, who in turn was killed by her brother. According to another legend, Abd-Melqart was killed by mountain people from Lebanon while traveling to Assyria .
