Abdagases I.

Coin of Abdgas I.

Abdagases I was an Indo-Parthian king who ruled around 50 to 65.

Abdagases I. was the nephew of his predecessor Gondophares . On his coins, from which only his existence is known, he is titled as ruler over kings , from which it was concluded that the central power was slowly being lost and the ruler had to share his power with other kings, although he was still recognized as head. Under Abdagases I, Gandhara was lost to the Kushana ruler Vima Takto .

Perhaps Abdagases I was related to the Parthian nobleman Abdagaeses from the House of Suren mentioned by Tacitus , who, together with his son Sinnaces AD 35-36, the Parthian rival king Tiridates III. against Artabanos II had supported. However, this presumed relationship is uncertain. It is also not possible to establish whether Abdagas I was identical with the army commander of the same name of Artabanos II mentioned by Flavius Josephus .

Abdagases' successor was likely Satavastre .
