Abu Abdallah al-Burtuqali Muhammad ibn Muhammad ( Arabic أبو عبد الله البرتقالي محمد بن محمد, DMG Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Burtuqālī Muḥammad b Muḥammad ; † 1524 ) was the second sultan of the Ouattasids in Morocco from 1505 to 1524 .

biography

Abdallah Muhammad al-Burtuqali succeeded his father Muhammad al-Sheikh al-Mahdi in 1505 . He was nicknamed al-Bortogali because he had lived as a hostage in Portugal for many years . Under his reign, after occupying the Atlantic ports, Portugal began forays into the interior, so in 1514 Marrakech was attacked. With the Ouattasids unable to effectively defend Morocco, their authority continued to decline in large parts of the country. In southern Morocco the resistance against the Portuguese and the Ouattasids began to be organized under Sherif Abu Abdallah al-Qaim (see also: Saadier ). In 1524, Abu l-Abbas Ahmad (r. 1524-1549), a son of Abdallah Muhammad, took over the rule.
