Abdel Rahman Shalgham ( Arabic عبد الرحمن شلقم; * 1949 ) is the UN ambassador for Libya (as of February 2011). From 2000 to 2009 he was the Foreign Minister of Libya.

biography

After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in media studies from the University of Cairo in 1972, he worked as editor-in-chief for the newspaper El-fajir El-jadid from 1975 to 1977 and for Cultural Weekly and Political Weekly from 1977 to 1979 . His first post in government was from 1981 to 1983 as Information Secretary. From 1984 to 1995 he was the Libyan ambassador to Italy for eleven years . From 1998 to 2000 he was the foreign policy spokesman for the General People's Congress of Libya. In 2000 he accepted the post of Foreign Minister, from which he was replaced by Mussa Kussa in 2009 .
