Abdo Hussameddin

Abdo Hussameddin (* 1954 ) is a Syrian politician. According to information from the opposition, he is said to have been the first high-ranking government official to switch to the side of the insurgents during the 2011/2012 uprising. Accordingly, he was Deputy Minister for Oil and Natural Resources in his country from August 2009 to March 2012.

Life

Hussameddin is an engineer in oil production. He began his working life with the state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company .

According to his own statement, Hussameddin worked for the Syrian government for 33 years.

He resigned from his post as deputy oil minister on March 8, 2012 in the wake of the 2011/2012 uprising and became the first high-ranking government representative to join the opposition. He cited the “brutal campaign of the regime” as the reason and described the Syrian government and its allies as “criminal”.

Hussameddin is married and has four children.
