Abductin is an elastic protein from mussels .
properties
Abductin is found in the ligaments of mussels and has an unusually high elastic compressibility compared to other proteins such as elastin , resilin , spider silk and ColP . Abductin is structurally related to elastin and resilin, with an increased occurrence of the amino acids glycine and methionine . Abductin partly consists of repeat units of ten amino acids (FGGMGGGKGG or FGGMGGGNAG).
Applications
A use of Abductin has been suggested for tissue engineering or the application of active ingredients .
