The Abdullah Gül University (AGU) is a state university, which is supported by a private foundation (AGUV) and is located in Kayseri (Turkey).

The university, which was inaugurated in 2010, has four faculties and thirteen bachelor, master and doctoral programs. All AGU courses are taught in English. The first courses started in the 2013/2014 academic year.

history

The first steps in founding Abdullah Gül University were taken in 2007 by the Kayseri City Council and personalities of Kayseri. The aim was to improve the profile of training in Kayseri in line with the urban development plan. The university was named after the prominent citizen of Kayseris and 11th President of the Republic of Turkey, Abdullah Gül , and was inaugurated on July 21, 2010. The university is described as a public-private partnership model (“Hybrid Universities”), which on the one hand is state-run and on the other hand is financially supported by a private foundation (AGUV) with more than 15 million USD. The legal basis for this model is insufficient.

According to ÖSYM , the new university, with only 121 students in 2013–2014, was among the preferences of 21,534 high school graduates nationwide and was named as the first choice of 3,046 among them. If you look at the number of applications and the few approved study places, the Abdullah Gül University became the most popular university among Turkish high school graduates.
