Abdullahi Issa
Mahamud Abdullahi Issa (Somali: Cabdullahi Ciise Maxamuud , * 1922 in Afgooye , Somalia , † 1988 ) was Prime Minister from 1956 to 1960 of the UN - Trust Territory of Italian Somaliland . He then held various positions in the government of independent Somalia.
Life
When the Second World War broke out , Abdullahi Issa was a student. After the end of the war, he joined the newly founded, first Somali party, the Somali Youth League SYL, and rose to become its general secretary. As ambassador of the SYL he traveled to Paris and New York to represent the cause of the independence of the Somali - for which the SYL strongly advocated.
After he was elected to the SYL in the 1956 elections, he was tasked with forming Somalia's first government, making him the country's first prime minister. In 1959 he was re-elected and remained Prime Minister, in addition to which he was at times Foreign, Interior and Justice Minister. In the government that was formed after Somalia gained independence in 1960, Abdullahi Issa was Foreign Minister, while Mohammed Haji Ibrahim Egal became Prime Minister . After the 1964 elections, Abdullahi Issa became a member of the SYL for Beledweyne .
