Abee (meteorite)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abee meteorite is a stone meteorite that fell on June 9, 1952 in Alberta , Canada . It has been classified as an EH4 chondritic breccia . A total of 107 kg was recovered.

Abee is the largest known enstatite chondrite to date . Due to its composition and texture, it is concluded that it must have had a very impactful history . It is also interesting that, compared to other meteorites, it is relatively poor in oxygen . From this it is concluded that its mother body was formed in an oxygen-poor area of the protoplanetary disk . For this reason, Abee has already been associated with Mercury , although this has so far been controversial.
