Abel is located in the east of the state of Alabama in the southern United States. It is located in the middle of the approximately 1.6 million square kilometers Talladega National Forest .

Nearby locations include Oxford (6 km northwest) Hollis Crossroads (6 km southeast), Heflin (10 km northeast) and Hobson City (12 km northwest). The next big city is Birmingham, about 80 kilometers to the west, with around 212,000 inhabitants .

history

The place was named after the biblical figure Abel , the second son of Adam and Eve .

In 1889 a post office was opened in Abel, which remained in operation until 1907.
