Abell 3266 is a cluster of galaxies in the southern sky . Its name goes back to George Ogden Abell , who compiled a catalog of galaxy clusters, the Abell catalog , in which Abell 3266 is listed.

It is part of the Horologium Reticulum Supercluster and contains hundreds of galaxies . It is one of the largest in the southern sky and one of the largest mass concentrations in the nearby universe.

Abell 3266 shows the late phase of a merger of two galaxy clusters. The smaller of the two moves at a speed of 750 km / s near the center of the larger and causes this region to heat up strongly.
