The Gesellschaft für angewandte Versicherungs-Informatik mbH was a company headquartered in Mannheim . It was a hardware and network service provider for many public insurers and acted as a domain registrar for all public insurers .

The Society for Applied Insurance Informatics (GaVI) mbH was founded on July 1st, 2002 and started operations on January 1st, 2003.

The seat of the company was Mannheim. GaVI had around 490 employees at eleven locations: Mannheim, Kassel, Munich, Stuttgart, Münster, Kiel, Karlsruhe, Hamburg, Wiesbaden, Berlin, Erfurt and Saarbrücken.

Sales in 2007 were around € 190 million. The company was a joint subsidiary of the Bavarian Insurance Chamber (54%), SV SparkassenVersicherung (23%), and Provinzial NordWest (23%).

The company dissolved on December 31, 2014 and was reintegrated into the insurance companies involved.

Business activity

The company was a full service provider for the operation of IT and telecommunications infrastructure; it provided or procured all the necessary services, including all associated consulting and conceptual services. In the area of network and system maintenance , the company concentrated on two areas: "Basic systems and databases" and "Data and telecommunications networks". The area of ​​responsibility for basic systems and databases included planning, conception, selection, provision, support and ensuring availability.

The area of ​​responsibility for data and telecommunication networks included the planning, conception, provision and acceptance, as well as support and advice for customers on the use of data and telecommunication networks. For customers mainly consisting of insurance companies, GaVI also provided production planning and process control, cross-platform production operations, the provision and operation of workplace components and the operation of the decentralized infrastructure for the customer on site. Distinct special competencies were the holistic management of the operation of complex multi-component applications as well as the end-to-end performance management (analysis, consulting, optimization).

Customer care should be a key area of ​​responsibility for the company. It encompassed the processing of inquiries, offers and orders as well as the mediation of competent contacts in all questions of IT operations as well as the planning of new IT infrastructures.
