Evening main school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Abendhauptschule is a special primary school type and belongs to the group of Second pathways (schools for adults, SfE).

General

Evening main schools are, depending on the state and local tradition, mostly offered by adult education centers in different "time windows":

  • on individual evenings of the week (e.g. on three to four days),
  • in the evening, approx. from 5:30 p.m., daily from Mondays to Thursdays,
  • Afternoon classes from around 2:30 p.m.
  • Morning classes ( main day school ), from around 8:00 a.m. on three to four working days.

At an evening main school you can obtain the main school certificate. This is possible without or with the main subject English (in Bavaria the secondary school leaving certificate with English is also referred to as quali , as experience has shown that it qualifies for a broader range of professional opportunities).

Access

In order to be admitted to evening main school, certain requirements must be met:

  • The applicant must have completed compulsory schooling,
  • have not yet acquired an educational level equivalent to the secondary school leaving certificate in the respective federal state and
  • z. In some cases, meet other requirements of the receiving educational institution (e.g. sufficient knowledge of German, sufficient knowledge of English for the subject English, etc.)
  • Individual federal states also make it a condition that the compulsory vocational school must be fulfilled or that the applicant does not attend another school at the same time, at which an educational level at least equivalent to the secondary school certificate can be acquired.

Information is usually provided by the adult education centers in the larger cities and / or the relevant school authorities.

costs

The day or evening schools are offered at different fees depending on the federal state and the provider. Sometimes books necessary for lessons are lent free of charge or for a fee or deposit, or you have to buy them yourself.

Lessons and exams

For people without a school leaving certificate or who have completed a special school or a special school, the time to go to school takes around eight months to one and a half years. Some providers offer preliminary courses in which previous learning material is refreshed or, in the case of those with little previous education, is relearned, thus preparing for the subsequent learning in the evening school. Core subjects are mostly German, mathematics and, if the requirements are met, English. In some places migrants can take an exam in their native language instead of English.

The range of subjects in the evening main school is somewhat reduced compared to a normal main school. Learning takes place in class sizes of 15-25 learners. These small groups have the advantage for learners that teachers can adapt to the group better and more intensively than in day schools. Exams are usually taken in a state secondary school.

history

Degree-related adult education has existed in Germany since the mid-1920s and is in the tradition of early workers’s training associations, adult education centers (formerly: Bund für Volksbildung) and liberal / civic education initiatives. What these origins have in common is that small people and / or socially disadvantaged groups in society should have access to more education and opportunities for career advancement.

Evening secondary schools were mostly founded as a result of the establishment of an evening grammar school or an evening secondary school .
