The Adventure Museum in Saarbrücken is a former museum that was founded by Heinz Rox-Schulz , who died in 2004 .

The Saarbrücken Adventure Museum, founded by the globetrotter, artist, author and filmmaker Heinz Rox-Schulz, was an institution in the Saarland capital. Shrunken heads of Jívaro Indians from the Amazon, hand axes, sabers, rhinoceros heads, sculptures, Tibetan skull shells and all kinds of cult objects and curiosities Rox had brought back from his trips to Africa , Asia , South America and New Guinea in 1950 .

The ethnological treasures of the collection include a grain mummy and the life-size figure of a Tuareg warrior from the Sahara in full gear. Rox-Schulz was a life artist. On his travels he made his way as a gymnast and artist. He later became a cameraman for Saarland Radio. You can read about his experiences in his books "The Adventures of Mr. Rox: Without Money into the World" or "Heaven and Hell India". A few days after his 83rd birthday, Heinz Rox-Schulz died in March 2004. Until recently, he had guided school classes through his museum in order to promote respect for other cultures.

Closing and reopening

In October 2004, the museum in the old town hall on Schlossplatz was closed because the city had canceled the subsidies for staff costs. Its holdings have been packed in boxes in the city of Saarbrücken since September 2005. On February 10, 2009, the Saarbrücken city council rejected the proposal that the museum should find a place to stay in two rooms of the former Saarbrücken Deutschherrnschule and decided in March 2009 to locate an ethnographic collection to which the inventory of the adventure museum should be given should be.

Since November 2013, parts of the collection can be viewed in the crime fair “Baker Street” in Saarbrücker Mainzer Straße. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the friends of the Adventure Museum would like to keep the memory of Rox-Schulz alive with regular special exhibitions.
