Abhorer was a Singaporean black and death metal band that was founded in 1987 under the name Tombcrusher and split up in 1998.

history

The band was founded in 1987 and emerged from the decay remnants of the group Perfidious. The project was initially called Tombcrusher, was a trio and consisted of the guitarist Exorcist, the drummer Tombcrusher and a singer. A session bassist helped out. After a singer change and the addition to a quartet, the name was changed to Abhorer. The group now consisted of Exorcist and Tombcrusher, singer Crucifer and bassist Corpse Grinder. In 1989 a first demo appeared under the name Rumpus of the Undead . It was re-released a little later as a split release with befriended Japanese band Necrophile on Decapitated Records . After the demo was released, Corpse Grinder was replaced by Imprecator, who had come into the group through Crucifer. Imprecator and Crucifer already knew each other because they had been classmates. In 1993 the EP Upheaval of Blasphemy was released via Shivadarshana Records , which contains two songs. After that, the band held performances and wrote more songs. In February 1996, the debut album was released under the name Zygotical Sabbatory Anabapt . After the release, the group took a break. Occasionally the members discussed the future of the band, such as gigs in other parts of Asia and other albums. However, since the band felt that there were no suitable locations for the foreign performances, and since the planned local performances were made difficult by the government, the band split up in 1998. One of the main reasons for breaking up was that the band felt that the classic “ metal feel” of the 1980s and 1990s had disappeared. In 2004 the compilation Unholy Blasphemer was released by Xtreem Music , the publication of which was never authorized by the band. Instead, a person from Malaysia had pretended to be a member of the band. In 2014 the compilation Cenotaphical Tri-Memoriumyths was published by Thrashingfist Productions with a print run of 500 copies, which consists of the demo, the EP and the album. In 2017 Oblation II: Abyssic Demonolatries was released via Devil Slut Records in collaboration with Nuclear War Now! Productions another compilation in an edition of 500, with 100 records were published in red and 400 in black. The sound carrier contains the debut demo as well as previously unreleased demo recordings from 1991.

style

Frank Stöver from voicesfromthedarkside.de assigned the band to black and death metal. In an interview with him, the drummer Dagoth stated that the band was initially mainly influenced by Sarcófago . In another attached excerpt, which is a combination of two interviews, Exorcist described that the members see themselves as demons who try to advertise blasphemy , desecration and fornication with the texts . Sabbathan from metal-district.de wrote in his review of Upheaval of Blasphemy that it contained a raw mixture of death and black metal. The Black Metal part is a classic way of playing, while Death Metal is mainly used for vocals.
