The Monte Hacho (in ancient times Greek Ἀβίλη στήλη Abile stele , Latin Abila Mons ) is a 204 meter high mountain, which towers over the Spanish city of Ceuta on the African north coast. Monte Hacho is located on a peninsula, the Península de Almina , on the Strait of Gibraltar across from Gibraltar and is sometimes referred to as the southern of the two pillars of Heracles , with most sources mentioning the Jebel Musa .
On the summit of Monte Hacho there is a fort, the Fortaleza de Hacho , which was originally built by the Byzantines and later expanded by the Moroccans, Portuguese and Spanish. Today it is used by the Spanish army . On Monte Hacho you can also find the Ermita de San Antonio monastery and a monument to the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco .
