Abram Solomonowitsch Gurwitsch

Abram Solomonovich Gurvich ( Russian Абрам Соломонович Гурвич * January 30 . Jul / 11. February  1897 greg. In Baku ; † 18th November 1962 in Moscow ) was a Soviet literary critic , theater critic and chess composer .

Gurwitsch was a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR . He was a highly respected literary and theater critic.

In his spare time he created more than 80 chess studies , twelve of which received first prizes. Among other things, he won the 6th chess composition championship of the USSR in 1962. Matt , conversion into minor pieces and positional draws were typical themes in his works.

Gurwitsch was appointed International Referee for Chess Composition in 1956 . In 1957 he was awarded the Master of Sports of the USSR . 1961 he worked in his article chess poetry in depth with the aesthetics of chess study. An expanded version of his essay Schachmatnaja poesija was translated into German by Werner Speckmann after a meeting with Gurwitsch in September 1961 and edited and appeared as the main part of the book Meisterwerke der Endspielkunst after Gurwitsch's death .
