Trophy Scars is a post-hardcore band from Morristown , New Jersey , USA , formed in 2002 .

history

Trophy Scars was founded in 2002 by Jerry Jones, John Ferrara, Brian Ferrara, and Mike Schipper in Morristown, shortly afterwards drummer Brian Ferrara, who was just thirteen, joined them. In the same year they released the self-recorded album Darts to the Sea on a friend's record label . The self-distributed EP Hospital Music For The Aesthetics of Language was recorded and produced by Chris Badami in 2003 at Portrait Studios in New Jersey. After Trophy Scars signed a record deal with The Death Scene Recording Company, the EP Goodnight Alchemy was released in June 2005 and was again produced by Chris Badami. In March 2006, Darts to the Sea / Sand in the Sea will be released, a double CD consisting of the debut album Darts to the Sea and the B-page collection Sand in the Sea . The 15 songs on the second CD are demo recordings of previously released songs or previously unreleased songs.

The album Alphabet will be released on June 13, 2006 in the USA . Alphabet. , which has the letter " A " as its basic theme . 13 of the 16 songs have a title starting with "A" in the singular and plural, for example Artist. Artists. , Assistant. Assistants. or assassin. Assassins. Two of the songs that deviate from this scheme are Yes and No , which divide the album into two halves as the seventh and eighth track. "They should", according to songwriter Jerry Jones, "serve as a short break for the listener, where he can recover from the emotional intensity of the other pieces." The third deviating song is A Song Begins With "A." Almost All These Songs Begin With "A." titled and closes the album. Jones got the idea for this concept from the book The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne , published in 1850 . The album is written by Brian and John Ferrara in Alpharetta , Georgia and by Jerry Jones in New York . The demos will be exchanged via email. Although not available in Germany at the time, the album was voted “Beauties of the Month” by the music magazine Visions in May 2007. In the review, Jan Schwarzkamp writes "Trophy scars [...] are [...] definitely the freshest thing that the scene between Emo, Metal and Postcore has produced in a long time."

In 2007 the EP Hospital Music For The Aesthetics of Language was re-released, the album Alphabet. Alphabet. also appears in Germany and guitarist Adam Moutafis joins the band. On March 13, 2012, Alphabet became. Alphabet. Released for the first time on vinyl, in a limited edition of 500 copies, 400 in white and 100 in blue and white.

Trophy Scars see themselves as a DIY band. Instead of letting the label work for you, you organize a lot yourself. The artwork on the previously released CDs was mainly designed by Jerry Jones.

style

Trophy Scars combine different music genres such as hardcore punk , hip-hop (on Alphabet. Alphabets. She supports rapper Kadence Posse with Assassin. Assassins. And Accent. Accents. ), Mathcore , emo and post-hardcore . They are compared with Brand New , Cursive , Desaparecidos and the Blood Brothers as well as with The Bled or Thursday .
