Shear (statics)
The shear is a type of stress in the strength of materials . Shearing occurs with positive connections . This includes, for example, rivets , bolts , feather keys or pins . This is also referred to as shear stress , shear stress or shear stress . The symbol for the shear stress is given in.
In the case of shear stress, a distinction is made between the cutting ability of the connections, i.e. H. how many surfaces are sheared off. The upper example in the picture, a simple rivet connection, is single-shear, the connection in the lower example is double-sheared. This also has an effect in the formula:

- : Acting force
- : Cutting ability or number of shear surfaces
