Offside trap
The offside trap is a defense tactic that has played a central role in modern football . The defending team tries to sideline an opposing attacker immediately before he is played. This means that at the time of the face-off, the attacker is closer to the goal than the ball and the penultimate player on the defending team. The defenders move against the direction of attack and must be perceived by every defender - which is where the greatest risk of this strategy lies: If not all defenders manage to get past the opponent in time, the opponent can shoot without breaking the rules comes. This strategy also requires that the offside position is noticed and punished by the referees .
