Abtshof

The Abtshof Magdeburg GmbH is a traditional German manufacturer of spirits . The company produces at the Magdeburg location and is known nationwide primarily for its range of absinthe products.

history

The entrepreneurial family Hegemann from Niederemmel - Piesport founded the subsidiary "Abtshof" as a branch of the winery "Marienhof" in 1924 on the site of the former 1st Buckau steam beer brewery "Reichardt & Schneidewin". In 1928, the Abtshof began producing spirits such as liqueurs and brandies.

Despite considerable war damage, the rebuilding of the company could begin in 1945. In 1951 the company became public property and produced wines and spirits. At its peak, 11.4 million bottles were produced and shipped annually. After reunification , the Nissenbaum family from Constance worked together , the Nissenbaum family foundation and a management buy-out, which resulted in the privatization to Abtshof Magdeburg GmbH.

Today, spirits are produced exclusively for the national and international market. The company became known nationwide for the production of the Absinth 66 brand . In addition to absinthe, traditional GDR products such as Abtshof Goldbrand and Magdeburger Klarer are still made today . Absinthes from Abtshof can also be found in various chocolates. In 1993, the company was the first to produce kosher spirits from Germany . In 1998, Abtshof received the Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Enterprises, and the company's products have been DLG- awarded annually since 2003 .

The company has been led by Gerhard Mette and Gideon Nissenbaum since 1992. On November 18, 2009, Gerhard Mette was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class for his outstanding commitment in the field of business and for his activities to promote cultural, sporting and social institutions.

The Abtshof is an honorary ambassador for the city of Magdeburg. In August, on the initiative of Mette, the Magdeburg Circus Museum opened in the entrepreneur villa of Rudolf Wolf's machine factory on the grounds of the Abtshof company .
