Abu Darvish Mosque
The Abu Darvish Mosque ( Arabic مسجد أبو درويش, DMG Masǧid Abū Darwīš ) in the Jordanian capital Amman is one of the most famous mosques in the country. Its black and white striped masonry, which is supposed to refer to the traditional architecture of the Levant , is striking . The interior is sober, but is covered with Persian carpets. It was built from 1961. Hasan Mustafa Sharkas financed the construction. It is located on one of Amman's hills, the Jabal al-Ashrafiyah. The mosque, which is visible from afar, is only allowed to Muslims.
