Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al-Muazzam Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abdullah Al-Mutasim Billah Shah GCMG ( Arabic أبو بكر; born May 29, 1904 , Istana Hinggap, Pekan ; died May 7, 1974 ) was the fourth sultan of Pahang .

Life

Abu Bakar was born near Istana Hinggap, in the Pekan district. He was the second son of Sultan Abdullah Al-Mutassim Billah Shah and his wife Che Kalsom binti Tun Abdullah .

In 1932 he succeeded his father and soon earned the love of his subjects as a friendly and approachable ruler. During the Japanese occupation of Malaysia (1941-45) he secretly supported the resistance movement such as Rejimen Askar Wataniah , Force 136 and the Malayan Peoples' Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA).

However, he was denied greater honors, as his preference to marry women from the common people, including several actresses and singers, was ungraciously received by the other Malaysian rulers. They refused to appoint him as Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia five times .

family

His main wife (Tengku Ampuan Pahang) was Raja Fatimah, the daughter of Sultan Iskandar Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah I , whom he married in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Tengku Ampuan Fatimah was his cousin. Another famous wife was Maria Menado .

death

Abu Bakar died on May 7, 1974. He was succeeded by his son Ahmad Shah .
