Abu Muhammad al-Jaulani

Usama al-Absi al-Wahdi ( Arabic أسامة العبسي الواحدي, DMG Usāma al-ʿAbsī al-Wāḥidī , * in Deir ez-Zor , Syria ), known under the battle name Abu Muhammad al- Jaulani ( Arabic أبو محمد الجولاني, DMG Abū Muḥammad al-Ǧaulānī ), has been the leader of the jihadist - Salafist terrorist organization Haiʾat Tahrir asch-Scham since 2017 .

From 2012 to 2016 he was the leader of the Jabhat Fatah asch-Scham (formerly al-Nusra Front), which as a Syrian subgroup of al-Qaeda in the civil war in Syria, among other things, against the government of Bashar al-Assad , parts of the Free Syrian Army , Kurdish People's Defense Units and fought against the Islamic State (IS) since February 2014 . IS declared war on Jaulani and his organization after he swore allegiance to Al Qaeda chief Aiman az-Zawahiri in 2014 and not Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , the self-appointed caliph of IS.

Because of the Russian military operation in Syria , on October 13, 2015 Jaulani called on jihadists in the North Caucasus to take revenge against Russian civilians and soldiers.

In a video from July 2016, al-Jaulani revealed that his real name was Ahmad Husain al-Shaʿra, born in Darʿā in 1974 and that he lived in Damascus.

The US has offered $ 10 million for clues leading to his arrest.
