Abydos hieroglyphs

Abydos hieroglyphs is the popular name for a hieroglyphic inscription found in Abydos .

discovery

In 1990, a group from the Ancient Astronaut Society visited the mortuary temple of Seti I in Abydos and discovered an inscription on an architrave in the center of the apparition room which they believed contained hieroglyphs representing modern vehicles. In this way they identified a helicopter, a battle tank or gunboat and a submarine. They held this as evidence of pre-astronautics .

meaning

Temple of Seti I: View from the apparition hall through the sacrificial table hall into the chapel of Amun - the hieroglyphs are on the left above the location on an architrave between the two rows of columns in the apparitions hall

However, the true meaning of hieroglyphs was long known. It is an inscription that originally named the so-called Nebti and the throne name of Pharaoh Sethos I :

Born again, with a powerful sword that destroys the nine bows (Nebtiname) King of Upper and Lower Egypt, Lord of both countries Remaining (Enduring) is the world order of the Re (throne name)

Later, parts of the inscription were covered with plaster and the nebtin name and throne name of Ramses II , the son of Sethos I, were replaced. This was possible because the inscriptions were painted in bright colors and the underground was not visible. It is noticeable that for reasons of space the new hieroglyphs had to be written very small:

Emergence

Architrave with Abydos hieroglyphs

As the colors later disappeared and the plaster came off the stone, the hieroglyphs that are visible today came to light. What looks like a helicopter is the result of the original hieroglyph for bow and the later hieroglyphs for beating arm and a combination of the characters quail chick with arm :

T10 + D40 + G45

The main battle tank is based on the earlier hieroglyph for hand and the later hieroglyph for half :

d + Aa15

The submarine was created from the hieroglyph for the mouth and the new hieroglyph arm and basket :

r + a + k
