Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) since January 2012, the name for the 1917 American Dietetic Association ( ADA , dt. About American Society of Dietetics and Nutrition ) in Cleveland, Ohio based organization of "Dietitians", the English name for dieticians (Germany) or diaetologist (Austria) or nutritionist HF (Switzerland).

Members

The AND (formerly ADA ) has nearly 67,000 members, of which approximately 75 percent are registered dietitians / dieticians / nutritionists, 4 percent are registered dietary technicians for dietetics and nutritional counseling. The remainder of the membership includes researchers, educators, students, consultants, and catering managers. According to its own information, the AND is the world's largest organization for food and nutrition professionals.

Founding history and goals

It was founded by a group of women led by Lenna F. Cooper and Lulu C. Graves , the first president of the ADA , with the intention of helping the government conserve food and improve public health during the First World War . The company's headquarters are now in Chicago , Illinois.

She sees her mission as “leading the future of dietetics”.

International

The dietetics associations, to which the AND (formerly ADA) also belongs, are organized worldwide in the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA). Admission requirement to this association is u. a. that the association represents at least 50% diaetologists or dietitians. The international definition “ Definition of a Dieititan ” (EFAD, ICDA 2004) says anyone who is a diaetologist or dietician . The partner associations of AND (formerly ADA) in German-speaking countries are: The Association of Dieters - Deutscher Bundesverband e. V. (VDD), Association of Diaetologists in Austria and the Swiss Association of Qualified Nutritionists HF / FH . At the European level there is the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD), in which 33 associations are currently organized.
