Acetylacetone method

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The acetylacetone method , also known as the acetylacetone method , is a measuring method for determining formaldehyde . It is used for both emission and immission measurements. It is based on the Hantzsch dihydropyridine synthesis .

Structure, procedure and use

In the process, the gas to be sampled (a partial flow of the laden exhaust gas in the emission measurement ) is passed through an absorption vessel so that the formaldehyde contained therein is enriched in the absorption solution. The formaldehyde contained in the exhaust gas is reacted with acetylacetone and ammonium acetate to form diacetyldihydrolutidine . Its concentration is recorded photometrically ; Diacetyldihydrolutidine has an absorption maximum at 412 nm . Alternatively, the formaldehyde concentration can be carried out fluorimetrically at low concentrations or for continuous measurement

The acetylacetone process can be used for gases with a high water content. It is used, among other things, for exhaust gases from smokers and furnaces. It is not suitable for exhaust gases that contain more than 10 mg / m 3 of sulfur dioxide , as poor results are then produced due to cross-sensitivities . Acetaldehyde levels that are more than fifty times the formaldehyde content are just as disturbing . In the case of immission measurements, these boundary conditions are generally not a problem.
