Achar is a town in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the Tacuarembó department in sectors 9 and 11 . Closest settlements are Curtina in the north, San Gregorio de Polanco in the southeast and Cuchilla de Peralta or Cardoso in the southwest. In the north of Achar the Cuchilla de Santo Domingo extends in an easterly direction , while the area west of the place and the nearby Arroyo Cardozo , whose source is north of Achar, is called Cuchilla de Peralta .

history

On August 21, 1936, Achar was classified in the " Pueblo " category by Law No. 9587 .

Infrastructure

Achar has its own railway station on the "Montevideo - Tacuarembó - Rivera" railway line that passes through the town, although it is currently out of service. A few hundred meters to the north, Ruta 43 passes in an east-west direction. There is a connection to the national bus network. The place has a school, a children's play area and a soccer field. There is also a post office in town. Achar is connected to the water supply and the electricity and telephone network, and the on-site polyclinic supply is guaranteed.

Achar had 687 inhabitants at the 2011 census, of which 334 were men and 353 were women.
