Acholi is one of the Luo languages that belong to the West Nilotic languages , which in turn are part of the Nilo-Saharan language family . It is spoken by about 792,000 people, mainly in Uganda (in Acholiland ) and in Magwi County in South Sudan .

Partly on Acholi wrote z. B. the Ugandan poet Okot p'Bitek (see also Lawinos song ).
