Acholiland in Uganda

As Acholi land the traditional settlement area of is the African people of Acholi referred.

Usually the districts of Gulu , Pader and Kitgum in northern Uganda are meant. The Acholi living across the border in South Sudan are often not included in the name Acholiland.

The Ugandan Acholiland and the neighboring districts have been affected by the war between the Ugandan army and the rebels of the Lord's Resistance Army since 1987 .

Trivia

In 2009 a short film entitled "Acholiland" was published, which takes up the problem of the humanitarian situation after decades of civil war in this region. Directed by Dean Israelite, who was awarded the Short Film Emmy in the "Drama" category that same year.
