Eight piano pieces op.3

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eight Pieces for Piano , Op. 3 ( Hungarian Nyolc zongoradarab ) is a work for piano for two hands of György Kurtág in 1960.

overview

Kurtág's work on Eight Piano Pieces op. 3 was influenced by Andre Hajdus Plasmas (1957), six pieces for piano, and was partly begun during his studies in Paris . The piano pieces are considered aphoristic and are based on Anton von Webern and Béla Bartók . In the fifth piece, the twelve-tone music comes into its own, the intervals and the rhythm in the pieces suggest Bartók's influences.

It was Istvan Antal dedicated and was on 10 July 1960 at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt (Seminar Marienhöhe) of Andor Losonczy premiered . Losonczy copied the pieces from his childhood friend Kurtág in 1960 and anticipated the premiere by the dedicatee. The eight piano pieces were published by Editio Musica Budapest and Universal Edition in Vienna.

Antal recorded the work on July 13, 1961. Various radio companies later produced recordings, such as the SWR with Vera Lengyel on February 12, 1967 and the WDR with Alfons Kontarsky on June 2, 1967 and with Ádám Fellegi at a later date.
