Winning Jah

Winning Jah , actually Kingsley Eno Osagie , (born December 12, 1973 in Kano , Nigeria ) is a Nigerian reggae musician and songwriter. His most famous album is "Big Man", which has sold over 650,000 times. In Nigeria, Winning Jah is known as the "Nigeria King of Reggae" (Nigerian King of Reggae).

biography

The fifth of ten children, Winning Jah was born in Kano and grew up in Benin City . At the age of six he became the lead singer of the band "Emababa Reggae Group", which was founded by Winning Jah's mother. They played at various social events and won the prestigious John Player Goldleaf Award for Best New Act in late 1989, before the band split up and Winning Jah began as a solo artist, and were the first children's reggae group in the country.

Winning Jah toured several countries and performed at major national and international festivals alongside musicians such as Luciano (singer) , Baba Sissoko, Ky-Mani Marley , Jahcoustix ,

He opened memorial concerts for Miriam Makeba , Fela Kuti and Alpha Blondy . He released three albums. In 2016 he released the album "Nouveau Business". The album received positive feedback in Italy and Nigeria. The fifth track "Deep Sea" became a kind of national anthem and was nominated for the Amnesty International Music Prize. In 2017 Winning Jah released another album entitled "Africa Inside Me" featuring Bob Marley and his son Stephen Marley . The song "Trust" appeared on various mixed tapes of international DJs two days after it was released by VP Records VPAL.

In 2018 a Nigerian newspaper reported that the singer had converted from the Rastafarian belief to his self-founded religion "Winningjahrian".
