Aft mast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The aft mast or main mast is the penultimate mast at four and five mast full ships . In the case of the Prussians , this mast was called the "Laeisz mast". This term is not used for barquentines and gaff schooners . The naming of the five-masted schooner and schooner - bark follows the system for five-masted bark , that for six- and seven- masted schooner the American system. The penultimate mast of the five-masted barque Potosi , generally the “ cross mast ”, was also called “Achtermast” or Laeisz mast according to some sources.

The sails or yards attached to the aft mast are called "aft mast" or "Achterrah", "Achterroyalrah" etc. In the English terminology of ship masts, the aft mast (English translation: "aft mast") has no direct counterpart.
