The Achurjan Dam ( Armenian Ախուրյանի ջրամբար ) or Arpaçay Dam ( Turkish Arpaçay Barajı ) is located on the Achurjan River ( Arpaçay Nehri ) on the Armenian - Turkish border.
The Achurjan dam was built in the years 1975-1983 south-southwest of the Armenian city of Gyumri . It is used for irrigation and flood protection . The shut-off is a 50.6 m high gravity dam of concrete . It has a volume of 180,000 m³. The 18 km long reservoir covers an area of 41.8 km² with normal damming. The storage volume is 525 million m³. In addition to the Achurjan, the rivers Karahan Çayı and Kars Çayı also flow into the reservoir from the west.
