The Achurjan ( Armenian Ախուրյան ; Turkish Arpaçay ) is a left tributary of the Aras in Armenia and Turkey .

The Achurjan has its origin in Lake Arpi in the north-west Armenian province of Shirak . It flows mainly in a southerly direction. It flows in a rocky gorge near Marmaschen west of the city of Gyumri . Later it will be dammed over a length of 20 km to the Achurjan reservoir , which is used for field irrigation. The Kars Çayı , a right tributary in whose catchment area the lake Çıldır Gölü lies, flows into the reservoir from the west. Below the dam, which was completed in 1980, the Achurjan forms the border to Turkey . Eventually it flows into the Macaws near the historic city of Bagaran .

The Achurjan has a length of 186 km. It drains an area of 9670 km².
