The Ackermann Shipping is a Swiss mail order company . It was founded in 1871 as the first mail-order company in Europe by Johann Ackermann in Entlebuch / Lucerne .

Company history

In 1842 Johann Ackermann founded the company "Ackermann" in Entlebucher Farb . In doing so, he was building on a family tradition that was already 100 years old. As early as 1746, Antonius Ackermann, known as "Meister Anton", set up a tailor's shop in his house in the Entlebuch valley. He was one of the first in the country who not only provided his own family with clothes, but also looked for customers. Initially in the immediate vicinity, later also outside the valley. The business was passed on from generation to generation in the family and the range expanded. When the company was founded by Johann Ackermann in 1842, the company included a tailor's shop, a hat-making shop, a spinning machine, a dye works and a shop. From 1871 the mail order business was operated systematically. On April 2, 1900 the “Gebrüder Ackermann & Cie. - Fabrication and trade in cloth goods ”was the first mail order company to be entered in the commercial register. The shipping activities were boosted by the opening of the Lucerne - Langnau - Bern railway line in 1875 and the expansion of the postal service.

In 1997 the company opened its own logistics center, which has been run as an independent stock corporation since 2003. In 2004 Ackermann merged with Veillon , but the alliance was dissolved again in 2006. In 2007 Quelle AG Austria took over the shipping business, and in 2010 the Austrian Otto-Versand subsidiary Unito Versand & Dienstleistungen GmbH acquired the shipping business.

The company Ackermann Versandhaus AG was renamed A Aco AG in 2007 and today operates a business park under the name Aentlebuch on the "former Ackermann site" in Entlebuch.

The company sells clothing for adults and children, household items and textiles, furniture, shoes and sporting goods.
