Arable sand

Ackersand is a small village in the municipality of Stalden in the canton of Valais .

The village is located at an altitude of around 700  m above sea level. M. on the Vispa in the level of the Vispertal .

There is a crossing point of the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn on the route of the former Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn . The main road 212 from Visp to Saas-Fee leads through the village. There on the road at the crossing point is the post bus stop “Stalden VS, Ackersand / Post”, which is served by post buses on the Visp – Stalden line.

According to the national weather service MeteoSwiss, arable sand is the driest place in Switzerland with an average annual precipitation of 545 mm in the period 1981-2010.
