The Acne aestivalis , and Mallorca -Akne and Sommerakne called one is genetically predisposed , photoreactive acneiform disorder of hair follicles and special form of sun eczema ( polymorphic light eruption ). The disease was named after the Danish dermatologist Nils Hjorth , who first described the disease in 1972.

Epidemiology

Acne aestivalis occurs mainly in vacationers who are unprepared and expose themselves to strong sunlight for a long time.

Symptoms

Small nodules a few millimeters in size form in the area of the hair follicle openings. These can be skin-colored or slightly red. They usually occur on the shoulders, in the chest and on the upper back, but are rarely affected in the face area. In contrast to other forms of acne, there are no purulent efflorescences in acne aestivalis , and there are no or only isolated comedones .

causes

Aesthetic acne is a reaction of the skin to UV rays . The typical nodules are a result of fibrosis (new formation of connective tissue ). This disease can occur even without the use of sunscreen . In rare cases, acne aestivalis is a side effect of PUVA (photochemotherapy).

therapy

The disease heals slowly after avoiding further UV exposure. An additional keratolytic treatment, as is usual for acne vulgaris , can accelerate the healing process.
