The Acroporidae are a family of hard corals (Scleractinia). With the Acropora and Montipora, they include the most species-rich genera of hard corals. The Acroporiden are closely related to the Pocilloporiden and Astrocoeniiden .
Like most other hard corals, all Acroporidae live in a symbiotic relationship with small algae ( zooxanthellae ), which supply the acropores with nutrients. You are therefore dependent on bright locations. The Acroporidae grow very quickly, dominate the reefs in many places and form regular monocultures .
