Acrotrichis dispar is a beetle fromthe dwarf beetle family (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.65 millimeters and have an almost dull brown-black body. The posterior angles of the pronotum are rectangular and only slightly extended towards the rear. The species is very similar to Acrotrichis sericans . The rounded pronotum is, however, significantly wider than the wing and evenly structured, very narrow, punctiform. The wings are barely longer than together wide, rounded on the sides and are somewhat widened in the male towards the tip.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in northern and central Europe. In the north it occurs from the British Isles and Denmark to southern and central Scandinavia, Finland to Lapland and northern Russia. The southern limit of distribution runs through France, South Tyrol, Austria, Hungary and Romania. It occurs only locally in Central Europe and is very rare. The animals live on dung and rotting mushrooms.
