Acrotrichis sericans is a beetle fromthe dwarf beetle family (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.7 millimeters and have a slightly shiny gray-black body with parallel sides. The posterior angles of the pronotum are rectangular and only slightly extended towards the rear. The pronotum is imperceptibly wider than the wing and at the most slightly more shiny than the wing and evenly structured very closely punctiform. The wings are much longer than together wide and are not expanded in both sexes towards the tip. The antennae are dark, the first two links are rust-red. The legs are yellow-brown.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in the Palearctic and North America. It is one of the most common species of the genus in Central Europe and is widespread. In the Alps you can find them up to about 1600 meters. The animals live under rotting plant matter and manure.
