Acrylic stone consists of about a third acrylic ( polymethyl methacrylate or PMMA) and 5% pigments . The main ingredient is 70% minerals, such as. B. aluminum hydroxide (ATH). Up to 40 percent of the ingredients are recycled materials. The exact composition depends on the desired material property, such as. B. Color, handle, temperature resistance, etc. The acrylic stone is very variable here by controlling the aggregate. Common to all acrylic stone materials is the bond by means of the thermoplastic PMMA and thus also the difference to synthetic stone based on resin.

Applications

Some manufacturers of kitchen and bathroom furnishings offer countertops made of this material. Acrylic stone is made using a casting process.

The advantages of acrylic stone due to its cast, non-porous, massive and homogeneous type of material are characterized by a hard, massive, impact-resistant, light- and food-safe, acid, oil and heat-resistant and easy-care surface, whereby acrylic stone is just as easy to work with like hardwood . Acrylic stone is available in numerous color variations and, due to its composition, can be connected seamlessly and almost invisibly. Usually it can be melt- transform .

In the architectural field, acrylic stone has been used for facade design for several years.

In jewelry design, acrylic stone has been used to design costume jewelry for decades .
