Actinobacillosis of Pigs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The actinobacillosis of swine is a highly contagious bacterial infectious disease of the domestic pig which with severe lung and pleura inflammation associated (pleuropneumonia). In Switzerland it is one of the animal diseases to be combated (group 3).

Pathogen

The causative agent of the disease is the gram-negative rod Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae , which is relatively species-specific and has only a low resistance ( tenacity ) to physical and chemical influences. A distinction is made between two biovars and 15 serotypes .

Clinical picture

Actinobacillosis is usually peracute or acute. The peracute course manifests itself in a high fever, breathing difficulties and general disturbances and ends fatally after 24 hours. In the acute course , the symptoms are somewhat weaker, and bloody nasal discharge can also occur. The acute illness can be fatal or develop into a chronic form. The chronic course is usually clinically normal.

Differential diagnosis is mainly classical swine fever , African swine fever , swine influenza, enzootic pneumonia , PRRS (porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome) and other bacterial septicemia as erysipelas clarified.

Pathologically and anatomically, there is a hemorrhagic-necrotizing pleuropneumonia, with a chronic course often only an adhesive pleuritis.
