The Acum (Latin for "sharp"), unit symbols acum , is a unit of measure for the psychoacoustic sharpness of an auditory event .

definition

A narrow-band noise of 920  Hz to 1080 Hz at a sound pressure level of 60  dB serves as reference sound with a sharpness of 1 acum .

The sharpness of other noises is determined by ratio scaling: a sound whose sharpness is perceived as half as sharp as the reference sound has a sharpness of 0.5 acum.

A calculation method is  specified in ISO 532.
