Adalbert Baumann (born February 10, 1870 in Karlstadt ; † 1943 ) was a Bavarian teacher and politician of the Democratic-Socialist Citizens' Party in Munich .

Life

The senior secondary school teacher was a member of the Provisional National Council from 1918 to 1919 , the Bavarian Parliament that existed from the November Revolution to the state election in Bavaria in 1919 . In 1919 he took part in meetings of the German Workers' Party , the predecessor organization of the NSDAP . Following a speech by Gottfried Feders , during the discussion he spoke out in favor of separating Bavaria from “Prussia”, i.e. ultimately for Bavaria's secession from the German Reich. Adolf Hitler , who at that time was not yet a member of the DAP, subsequently spoke out vehemently for Bavaria to remain with the Reich, which, according to his claims, led the DAP leadership around Anton Drexler to become aware of him. Baumann also had contacts with other parties, including the DNVP and the radical left USPD . In 1935 he tried to justify his views at the time in a letter to Hitler.
