Adalpertus
The Benedictine monk Adalpertus from the monastery of Sankt Emmeram in Regensburg is one of the few illuminators of the Middle Ages who became known by name because he received the traditional order around the year 1000, the so-called Codex aureus of St. Emmeram , a splendid Carolingian manuscript that today in the Bavarian State Library in Munich (Clm 14000, cim. 55) is to be restored. Arnulf von Kärnten gave the monastery the gospel book in 893 , whose abbot Ramwoldus - also Ramoald (abbot from 975 to 1001) - entrusted the revision to Adalpertus.
He added a page with the picture of his client surrounded by the four evangelists as an independent work . On the lavishly designed side, the precious colors purple and gold dominate, the ornamental design reveals an active painting school.
