Francesco Zingales

Francesco Zingales (* 1884 ; † 1959 ) was an Italian general .

During the Second World War , Zingales led several large motorized formations. He took part in the attack on Yugoslavia in the spring of 1941 . A few months later he was to take over the management of the Corpo di spedizione italiano in Russia , but fell ill on the way to the Soviet Union and returned to Italy from Vienna . In 1942, under Rommel , he led an Italian tank corps (including the "Ariete" tank division ) in the North African desert war. From November 1942 to March 1943 he was still in the Soviet Union, where he commanded a corps of the 8th Italian Army .

Because of his military convictions and his leadership style, Zingales was nicknamed the "Italian Guderian ".
