The Holy Adalrich , actually Adalrich of Swabia , sometimes Adalrich of Einsiedeln , († 29 September 973 or 973) was a monk of the monastery of Einsiedeln and lived as such as a hermit on the island Ufenau .

Life

According to early medieval tradition, Adalrich is the son of Duchess Reginlinde von Nellenburg and Duke Burchard II of Swabia . Possibly Adalrich is the monk Alaricus, a contemporary of Saint Wibroda .

According to legend, Adalrich was a priest in the parish church of St. Peter and Paul, which was founded by his mother Reginlinde. After falling ill with leprosy, she also moved to the island, where her son not only worked as a pastor, but also supposedly performed miracles.

His grave is in the Church of St. Peter and Paul , while the baroque sarcophagus, which is now empty, has been moved to the Church of St. Martin (both on the Ufnau).

Adoration

Adalrich, whose name day is celebrated on September 28th, has been venerated since the 14th century. An altar was erected in his honor as early as 1372, the grave was opened in 1659 and the bones were buried in a sarcophagus and transferred to Einsiedeln in 1959. He has been venerated in Einsiedeln and Freienbach , where the parish church is consecrated to him, since the 17th century .
