Regelinda
Regelinda , also Reginlind or Regilinde, († 958 ) was Duchess of Swabia through her first marriage to Burchard II . She was the daughter of Eberhard I. Graf im Zürichgau from the line of the Eberhardinger family and after the death of her first husband she married the newly appointed Duke of Swabia, Hermann I.
Reginlinde's origins go back to the Carolingians ; Ludwig the German was her great-great-uncle. Through her great-grandfather Eberhard von Friuli she was related to the Unruoching family.
Life
Little is known of the life of the Swabian-Alemannic duchess. She is said to have grown up in the Säckingen monastery and was married to Count Burkhard II in 904 . Together with him, Regelinda founds the St. Margarethen women's monastery in Waldkirch . By marrying her children she had close contacts both to the Kingdom of Burgundy ( Berta married King Rudolf II of Burgundy) and to the royal court of the Ottonians (Ida married the eldest son of King Otto I , Liudolf ). The marriage of her daughter Berta with King Rudolf II of Burgundy had a daughter, Adelheid , who, as the wife of Emperor Otto the Great, was to become one of the most important women of the 10th century.
After the death of her second husband, she retired to the “Felix und Regula” monastery in Zurich, now the Fraumünster . She had been the lay abbess of this monastery since 929 . Regelinda is also known as the lay abbess of the Säckingen monastery .
A hermitage was built on the island of Ufenau in Lake Zurich in the middle of the 10th century by the monk Adalrich . Adalrich is often named as Reginlinde's son, but this has not been proven. Regelinda donated the Martinskapelle there and the parish church of St. Peter and Paul, completed under Adalrich .
She donated the Einsiedeln monastery from her assets, and through her various connections to the royal house of Otto I , the monastery was granted the privilege of immunity and free election of abbot in 947.
